NGF Research Snapshot: Mini-Golf

by Phil Sprung

May 2019

Miniature golf remains a popular pastime for family and friends, though it’s not as in demand as traditional golf, which was played by more than 24 million Americans last year.

While the NGF tracks miniature golf participation, it isn’t included as a form of off-course golf participation, a category that looks at golf-entertainment, traditional driving ranges and indoor simulators. Mini-golf is still a fun and engaging way of getting a club — in this case a putter — in someone’s hands, young or old, and giving them the opportunity to celebrate hitting a golf ball into a hole.

The overall participation number for mini-golf would also likely increase when adding those ages 5 and under. For many, it is their introduction to golf of any kind.
