Rounds-played were up 6.8% in April compared to a year earlier thanks to warmer temperatures in many northern parts of the country. In 2018, April rounds had been down 13.5% nationally because cooler temperatures delayed the start of Spring.

Total rounds were up most significantly (+40.1%) this April in the West North Central, which is home to Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas, despite a 105% year-over-year increase in precipitation in the region.

Rounds were also up significantly in the Mid Atlantic (+30.3%), East North Central (+26%) and New England (+10.2%).

The increases in Northern parts of the country were tempered by slight declines in the South Atlantic, South Central and Pacific regions, most significantly California, Texas and both North Carolina and South Carolina.

Through April, the total number of rounds were up 1% across the country. While the April increase is notable, May through September comprise a much greater percentage (approximately two-thirds) of annual rounds played.
