Rounds played in May were up 5.3%, marking the end of four consecutive monthly declines due to unusually cooler temperatures and greater precipitation across much of the U.S.

While the national, year-to-date total through May is down 4.1% compared to a year ago, it has improved over the year-to-date number through April (which was at -8.9%).  May accounts for about as many annual rounds as January through March combined, so the fact that rounds were up more than 5% in May helps explain the improvement in the year-to-date figure.

May rounds were up in all but the South Atlantic region.  Rounds were up by double-digit percentages in New England and the East North Central region (18% and 11%, respectively), and up over 5% in four of the five remaining regions.

Many parts of the South Atlantic region were hit hard in May due to a significant increase in precipitation, particularly Florida and the Carolinas.

The Pacific and Mountain regions continue to outpace rounds performance from a year ago as rounds in both of those regions are up year-to-date, 10% and 5% respectively.

Now that the months with heaviest rounds volume (June-August) are in full swing, these next few months will be important in determining overall rounds performance for the year.

Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate and allow operators to make-up for any deficits.
