In 2020, almost 61 million more were played in the U.S. than in 2019, the biggest year-over-year increase since 1997. This 14% jump came despite the loss of 20 million spring rounds due to coronavirus-related shutdowns in March and April, when more than half of the 16,000+ courses in the country were temporarily closed due to the coronavirus.  From June through the end of 2020, there were approximately 75 million more rounds played than the same stretch in 2019.
