States With the Most Public Golf Courses
Florida has the most golf courses in the country overall, but it's Michigan that leads the way when it comes to the most courses open to the general public. Michigan has over 500 daily fee courses -- more than golf-rich states Texas and Arizona, combined. California boasts the most municipal golf courses, but is followed closely by Illinois and Texas. Overall, golf is predominantly public in the U.S., with almost three-quarters of the 16,000+ courses open for public play.
