November 2023 National Rounds Played
National rounds of golf were up over 8% year-over-year in November, with slight gains in golf-rich states like California, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, a bigger jump in Texas, and the golf season being extended somewhat in parts of seasonal states such as Colorado, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
With only December’s rounds to account for — one of the lowest volume months of the year — play is trending 3.6% ahead of the pace in 2022, per the latest monthly rounds report distributed by Golf Datatech. As a result, 2023 remains on track to be one of the top four years for rounds in U.S. history.
California, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina saw play gains of 5% to 6% in November, while a few extra playable days led to unexpected boosts in Colorado (+33%), Minnesota (+41%) and Wisconsin (+14%). Rounds in Texas, which has the fifth-most courses in the nation, were up 18% in November.
While November, on a national level, is a low-volume month that’s more dependent on golf-friendly weather and seasonality, the +8% YOY jump was the second biggest of any month in 2023. Only May (+10%) saw a larger increase in monthly rounds.
