Jeremy Galbreth, Senior Director, Mizuno USA Golf

Chris Voshall, Golf Marketing Manager, Mizuno USA Golf

Mizuno is one of the premier sports equipment companies in the United States with a primary focus on team sports (baseball, softball, and volleyball), running, and golf. Mizuno has also expanded its reach into new sports categories including tennis, swimming, soccer, and training.

The company’s U.S. golf product offerings run the gamut – from woods, irons and wedges to gloves, bags and balls. Meanwhile, Team Mizuno players on the professional tours include PGA Tour members Greyson Sigg, Keith Mitchell, Luke Donald, as well as DP World  Tour participants Adrien Saddier and Laurie Canter in addition to LPGA Tour member Stacy Lewis.

The Mizuno brand was founded in 1906 when Japanese brothers Rihachi and Rizo Mizuno started a shop that sold western items such as baseballs and athleticwear.

Although the company had an early focus on other sports such as baseball and tennis, Mizuno started planning for golf club production in 1921. The company in 1965 opened what was at the time the world’s largest golf factory and three years later launched the high-end “Grand Monarch” golf club brand, which would eventually be inducted into the American Golf Hall of Fame.

Mizuno USA, Inc. currently operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of its Japanese parent.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Although Mizuno is fundamentally identified as an iron company by most consumers, it has been a part of significant innovations over the years; Among them, introducing the first golf clubs with carbon heads (Vanguard drivers) in 1982 and the first clubs to incorporate pure titanium (Ti-110 and Ti-120) in 1990.

It’s also noteworthy that Mizuno irons, per GolfWRX, are the most widely-adopted among PGA TOUR players who are not under contract to play a particular company’s equipment.

Mizuno has been making and selling golf equipment since 1933 and its U.S. product offerings run the gamut — from woods, irons and wedges to gloves and bags.
